What are good combined retirement and birthday party ideas?

My mom retires Friday after 33 years at his post A nephew secretary.My fifth anniversary is on the same day. I want them to throw any small family only. I want my sister, her husband, my niece (6 years), my father and boyfriend attend. I intend to have the party at my parents house (my apartment is too small) on Friday evening. I want to be more elegant for my mother but also fun for my nephew. I want to serve appetizers and dinner to cook a kid around something special friendly and elegant parmesan (chicken or Salisbury steak).
